Welcome to my Tour Stop & Review for Shadows of Asphodel by the talented Karen Kincy.
Synopsis (Cover links to Goodreads):
When Ardis discovers a man bleeding to death on the battlefield, she knows she has to walk away.
1913. In her work as a mercenary for Austria-Hungary, Ardis has killed many men without hesitation. One more man shouldn’t matter, even if he manages to be a charming bastard while he stands dying in the snow.
But when he raises the dead to fight for him, she realizes she must save his life.
If a necromancer like Wendel dies, he will return as a monster—or so the rumors say. Ardis decides to play it safe and rescues him. What she doesn’t expect is Wendel falling to one knee and swearing fealty. Ardis never asked for the undying loyalty of a necromancer, but it’s too late now.
Ardis and Wendel forge an uneasy alliance underscored with sexual tension. Together, they confront rebels, assassins, and a conspiracy involving a military secret: robotically-enhanced soldiers for a world on the brink of war. But as Ardis starts to fall for Wendel, she realizes the scars from his past run more deeply than she ever imagined. Can Ardis stop Wendel before his thirst for revenge destroys him and everyone else around him?
(Dieselpunk romance. Recommended for ages 17 & up.)
Author: Karen Kincy
Where did I get the book: From Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for an honest review and for the purposes of this tour. I was in no way compensated for my review.
My Rating: 6!!!!!!!
I think maybe’s I have been reading too many PNR’s and and my usual sexy sexies- because goodness knows that I loved this change of pace. I am not overly familiar with the Steampunk / Dieselpunk genre and only read very few of them so can’t really differentiate between the two, but what ever I read – I loved it. Ms Kincy has a new fan for life.
Between the world building, character creation and in depth story line there really was a chance for a lot to go wrong and very little did. The two MC’s Ardis and Wendel were fantastically well rounded and easy to like. They had amazing chemistry that made their quick attraction fun to read.
Ardis is a very strong woman with a mind of her own. Not always open to new things
I was so into the book, characters, story line and the whole word of Punk that I was extremely bummed when I finished and had to put the reader down. Ever the happy girl I was when I checked on goodreads and saw the very many books by Ms Kincy. Cannot wait to get started!
