banner 01Hello folks,

Welcome to my tour stop of Effie’s Outlaw by Karen Lopp. I got to do an interview with the author, I hope you folks are happy with the questions asked. Also stick around for some more info and a giveaway. But first… the sexiest cover ever!

book cover 01Synopsis:

Boston heiress Effie Sheridan takes matters into her own hands when her fortune is being stolen. The last thing she expects is to be kidnapped by a gang of train robbers. Forced to pretend to be an outlaw’s lover to stay alive, she questions her sanity when she is drawn to the gruff, yet charming bandit who risks everything to save her.

U.S. Deputy Alex Marshall is mad enough to spit nails when the beautiful, city-bred girl lands in his arms. Unable to abandon her to the cruelties of the gang, he searches for a way out of the responsibility. But her courage and sweet kisses begin to chip away at the bitterness inside his heart and he must choose between revenge on the gang that slaughtered everyone he loved or redemption for saving a woman he can never have.

1. It is said you get your inspiration from research done into your family tree – what particular branch/story inspired Effie’s Outlaw?
My father’s side. One of his great-grandfathers did a stint as a U.S. Deputy. His story was fascinating. He had 17 kids with four different wives. Held down several different jobs and lived a long life.

2. I did some research on your other book Shotgun Bride. It looks absolutely to die for. If you had to choose, who would be your favorite character to write, Effie or Kathleen?
That’s hard. Kathleen is guess. She holds a special place in my heart, since she’s my first book.
3. Have any fantasies of your own about being rescued by a ruggedly handsome outlaw/U.S. Deputy?
Oh my, I’d burn up the screen if I told you that love to be rescued by Alex. He’s to die for.

4. How long have you been writing professionally?
I’ve been published for almost a year but have been working at it for about five years. Time flies by, so it’s hard to pin that down.

5. I know from personal experience that delving into family history can bring up some rather random things… My grandpa was a kitchen boy for the wrong side of the war in WWII until he couldn’t take it anymore and ran away to South Africa. What is the most fascinating titbit that has come from researching your own family?
One of my ancestors from Scotland was a highlander and she fell in love with a lowlander and got kicked out of the family. It was taboo way back then.
6. What did you do before you went out into the big bad world of writing?
I was a stay home mom and I homeschooled the kids. That was fun, yet very time consuming. I think it was all that reading we did that helped me but, yes I’d definitely become a writer.
7. Have you ever had a manuscript rejected by publishers? If so – how did you get past that rejection to try again?
It took some time before I got accepted by a publisher but I went into this knowing it was hard. I just always look for what can me learned by rejection and try, try, again.
8. Are any of your characters based on real people in your life right now? (in other words – not the ancestors that give you the inspiration)
I have to admit there is a lot of my husband in there. He’s a great guy that has always been there for me.
9. If there was anything you could change in Effie’s Outlaw what would it be?

Umm, I’d be afraid to at this point, my editor would skin me alive after all the work we did.
10. Marty McFly offers you one ride in the time machine. Where would you go, what would you do and why?
I would say 1776 to just sit and listen to the debates and decisions on founding America.
And now for the part I seem to most enjoy. Some word association:`
1. Rolo’s – caramel
2. Filing – need chocolate
3. Magic Markers – purple
4. Gun slingers – Doc Holiday
5. Flowers – Hollyhocks
Karen Lopp’s WIP

This is a blurb for her next western:

A guarded heart…A woman nearly broken by her past moves to her brothers Colorado ranch in the untamed West where she hopes her secrets can stay buried. But when the local ladies’ man decides to peruse her, he threatens the new life she’s building. Can she past his past when she can’t get over hers?

She is also writing a contemporary suspense:

Detective Rissa Marten sacrificed her only chance at a normal life to put a drug lord behind bars. Now her life in the shadows might become quick death in the light as the only way to save the man she loves, who believes her dead, is to face the cartel whose been hunting her for eight years.

Author Bio:

author image 01Steeped in a rich family history, Karen Lopp has always been drawn to the courageous lives of the women who lived through the hardships of the past and triumphed.
A transplant from Oklahoma where she grew up on a farm just one mile away from where her great-grandparents settled in the land run, Karen now lives in the enchanted land of New Mexico and has a running competition with her dad on who can grow the tallest hollyhocks. Books and tales of ancestors were staples in her life and she fell in love with history. Enthralled with the short stories her grandmother wrote and passed down, she took the plunge (with encouragement from hubby and kids) into the world of writing. And is now hooked. Her inspiration comes from research into her family tree and their interesting lives.

“Want some, darlin’?” Alex nibbled on her ear and shoved the communal whiskey bottle to her lips, his voice husky and loaded with the promise of pleasure.

A rush of heat settled in her loins. Nose crinkled, she pushed the beverage away and squirmed.

“No, thanks,” Effie demurred. Liquor wouldn’t cool the unexpected and inappropriate carnal desire that burned inside her.

Alex’s response to her shifting in his lap was immediate and shocking. She might be a virgin but she wasn’t clueless about male anatomy. Ducking her head into his shoulder, Effie sucked in a sharp breath in an effort to cool the heat in her cheeks.

“More for me.” He chuckled as if nothing happened.

“You tell a woman what to do, not ask, you fool.”

Sam’s snarl felt like being drenched in frigid water, dousing the hot surge of passion. Effie shuddered.

Alex’s entire body tensed and one hand slid down her side to rest on the butt of his Colt. Effie scooted off his lap.
