Switch by Janelle Stalder

Description:

All’s fair in love and war.

Two thirds of the world’s population has been wiped out, devastated by the worst war earth has ever seen. Still standing amongst the ruins is a mind reader who finds herself on the wrong side of the war. Everyone does what they must to survive. When the rebels bent on bringing down the New World leader start to rise up, it is her job to make sure they stay down where they belong. That is, until one rebel sneaks past her defenses and into her heart. Love will blossom from the ashes, but will it be enough to save them, or will it mean the end of them both?

My Review:

At the tender age of 16 Charlotte was found out to have the ability to read minds. As a result her mother gets killed and she gets taken into the New World Army and as such Dinah (Weapon X) is born. Determined to make use of all the resources that the army offers her she plans on one day finding her sister and escaping from the madness that now is her life. Five years down the line she is now third in command and still stuck where she was five years ago. Under the control of a madman that is surprisingly endearing. Sent on a mission with Roman (second in command and her now best friend) she runs into the most stunning green eyes she has ever seen. Pete manages to see through her in a way that no-one else has managed to do and soon the two of them find them in a tough situation growing closer and closer together.

I don’t think there are enough ways to explain how much I loved this book. Okay, yes some of it was a little predictable but who cares? Dinah was a fantastic character. Strong, independent, lonely and so desperate for more without actually realizing it herself. Her relationship with Pete was fantastically written. A modern day Romeo and Juliette (with a happy ending). I am not normally a fan of forbidden love, but this one was so artfully done that it was a delight to read. I loved watching the two of them wrestle with their feelings with each other and oh did I love the fact that the bad guy isn’t who you would think it is.

All the supporting characters were just as fun as the two mc’s. Ludwig was my favourite. Yes he is the bad guy, and yes he did kill two thirds of the worlds populations, but he was surprisingly human. You know, a man. I loved it.

This really was a great read. One I can see myself picking up again sometime in the future.

Oh and I really cannot wait to read Masked. The second one in the series… I really wanna know what happens with Bridgette (Dinah’s sister).
