So welcome to my thoughts on Something Wicked by Angela Cambell.
Psychic medium Alexandra King is sick of being pestered by her boss’s dead mother demanding help to reunite her two estranged sons. Determined to get some peace and quiet again, Alexandra follows a lead in finding the younger Collins brother to Charleston, South Carolina, where she immediately meets the hottest man she’s ever laid eyes on and finds herself a willing participant in seduction. Of course, her one-night-stand turns out to be none other than Dylan Collins — her boss’s younger brother and a homicide detective who believes psychics are a complete waste of time.
All Dylan wants is a few hours of pleasure to take his mind off of the case haunting him. A serial killer is stalking the streets of The Holy City — a killer who calls himself The Grim Reaper. When the woman he’d just spent the night with turns up and offers her services as a psychic consultant on the case, his ardor quickly cools. Last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a con artist.
It doesn’t take long for Dylan to realize Alexandra is the real deal – and the killer’s next target. Dylan’s protective instincts battle his reluctance to get too involved with a woman he isn’t sure he can trust. As they get closer to finding the killer, they also grow closer to one another, but will Alexandra’s secret agenda destroy their chance at happiness — if the killer doesn’t strike first?

Alexandra is on a mission. To find her boss’s younger brother and get the two of them together again. Brothers, as it should be. You might think this is a really altruistic move for her – think again. The only reason she is doing it is so that she can get the brother’s dead mom of their case. Yes – you read right. Dead mom. Alexandra is a physic that can see ghosts. See them, talk to them, joke with them and be completely befuddled by them. So off to Charleston she goes where she immediately falls for the ever so sexy Detective Collins. Can she separate the business and pleasure? Can she convince him that she really is what she claims to be and will the two of them catch the serial killer they are hunting or will Alexandra be the killer’s next catch?
This was such a fun read. I received On the Scent to read as well and will be posting the review for that in a few days. I loved it and as such couldn’t wait to pick up this one. I was not disappointed. (Just as a side note this book can be read as a standalone.)
Alexandra was such a fiercely independent character that might swoon over a hot guy, but by no means let him walk over her. She stood her ground with Dylan and fought for what she wanted. Both the characters had excellent chemistry and the love scenes were classy and tactful. Hot but not too raunchy and ever so breath taking. Brining in the ghosts as supporting characters was genius on Ms. Campbell’s part. I loved the characters that made this not only funny but easy to read.
The plot ran smoothly and fast paced. I picked it up, and couldn’t put it down. Highly recommended!
