Okay – so excuse me while I have a fangirl moment over the fantastic author that created this MASTERPIECE.
Let me begin by explaining what I think a masterpiece is:
A brilliant piece of art. Not perfect. Contains slight flaws that does not subtract from the art but in fact contributes to it.
Now that I have got that out of the way – lets get to the good stuff shall we?
Synopsis (Cover links to the Goodreads page).
Zoe Granger picked up her first guitar the day her heart was smashed into a billion pieces. It was a way to keep her mind off her inevitable downward spiral, but music soon became her escape. She’s been burned too many times to tell and is just happy to coast through life, never putting herself out there. That’s until her best friend Dee suggests they start a band and suddenly she finds herself not just a part of it, but fronting the whole outfit.
They call themselves The Devil’s Tattoo and when they release their debut EP, it rockets to the top of the charts and it’s like an overnight fairytale. Contracts, photo shoots, royalties and interviews are heaped onto the shy Zoe and it’s like she’s finally found her place. Then comes the phone call that changes everything. They’ve been asked to co-headline a tour with one of the hottest bands of the moment, The Stabs and Zoe will never be the same again.
Will Strickland is one fourth of the hottest indie rock band to ever grace the airwaves. He’s the bass player in The Stabs, hot as hell and could have his pick of any girl that flings herself at him. But he’s only got eyes for Zoe and she has no idea why he’d bother. She’s got one hell of a trust issue and an attitude to boot and Will seems to be the one who wants to tame her, but is he game enough?
The Devil’s Tattoo and The Stabs go on the road and it’s either going to be a highway to hell or a stairway to heaven. Only time will tell who will come out on top and Zoe’s determined to do it without getting her heart broken… again.
Author: Nicole R. Taylor
Where did I get the book: From Giselle over at Xpresso Book Tours in order to give my honest and fair opinion and for the book tour.
My Rating: A whopping 5 bookworms!
Zoe has a whopper of a history. A bad guy hurt her so deeply she not only withdrew from all her friends but completely withdrew from life. Stuck in a sucky job with only her guitar and one friend left Zo is as good as dead really. Until Dee (her very loyal, very brotherly best friend) tricks her into starting a band. Feeling very unsure and extremely shy she isn’t too sure about it until she discovers herself on the stage. Finally she has a voice. Finally she starts to come back out of her shell. Will she be able to crawl out far enough to open her heart. Will she be able to trust the oh so devilishly handsome Bass guitarist with her heart?
So you all saw my fan girl moment. You know I liked it. Well I guess you could say I loved it.
I picked this up in the middle of my hectic cramming session for exams. (A girl has got to have a break right). Once I started it I couldn’t put it down. I got drawn into Zoe and Will’s world and didn’t want to find my way out. I loved the fact that the author wrote it both out of Zoe’s and Will’s point of view. It made for very interesting reading and pulled me in so much deeper for it.
The characters (main and supporting) were all pretty awesome. I fell in love with Dee. He was just about the most supportive and selfless best friends I have ever read about. He stuck with her when all her other friends shunned her, picked her up and dusted her off when the world kicked her to the floor. And then of course – he gave her, her life line. He borrowed her his old guitar and taught Zoe her first few cords. SO without Dee we would not have the book. Will is pretty awesome too. Stupid at times. A little bit crazy at others (he had some serious stalker tendencies in the beginning) and adorably thoughtful. He complimented Zoe’s character so well that you cannot think of any other outcome then the two of them together. If only they would GET TOGETHER.
The continuous up and down, yo-yoing between Zoe and Will had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t wait for the two of them to let there nonsense go. For Will to stop being a douche and for Zoe to stop being so hard headed. And boy was it worth the wait.
This really was a spectacular read. One I can see myself returning to and probably shoving down my friends throats until they are as in love with it as I am.
